StudyRound Unleashes AI Power to Educate 1 Million Nigerian Students in 3 Years

Posted on January 30, 2025

Nigerian edtech platform StudyRound has unveiled bold plans to leverage artificial intelligence in its mission to transform education, announcing its target to reach and teach over 1 million students across Nigeria within the next three years.

An AI-First Future for Learning

The company’s strategy centers on embedding AI deeply into its platform to personalize learning journeys, improve retention, and support educators with smart tools. Planned features include adaptive assessments that tailor themselves to each student’s strengths and weaknesses, intelligent content recommendations, and real-time feedback systems that can scale to serve millions of learners simultaneously.

By weaving AI into the heart of its offering, StudyRound says it will not just digitize education, but reimagine it, turning classrooms, devices, and even remote learning spaces into environments where each student’s path is optimized for success.

 Scaling to 1 Million Learners

Nigeria has one of the world’s largest populations of school-age youth, with over 30 million students in secondary and tertiary institutions. StudyRound’s leaders believe that AI is the only way to scale effectively and deliver quality learning at massive scale.

“Our journey has been incredible, but the next phase is what excites us most,” said CTO Mofe Ejegi. “We are ready to use AI to empower both students and educators. In three years, we’re confident StudyRound will be supporting over a million Nigerian learners, and that’s just the beginning.”

From Small Beginnings to National Ambitions

StudyRound’s origins trace back to 2015, when it began as a small student app called U-Learn in a University of Benin hostel. The project lay mostly dormant until the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which revealed a growing need for digital learning. By 2023, the platform rebranded as StudyRound, launched on the web, and opened its doors to educators to create and host content.

That foundation now serves as a launchpad for its AI-driven expansion.

Empowering Educators, Unlocking Students

Alongside its AI focus, StudyRound is also investing in educator tools, enabling teachers and subject experts to design, distribute, and monetize courses. The blend of community-driven content and AI-powered personalization aims to make StudyRound a self-sustaining ecosystem of learning.

The Road Ahead

If successful, StudyRound’s model could serve as a blueprint for African edtech, balancing accessibility with cutting-edge innovation. The vision is clear: use AI to empower learning at scale, bridge education gaps, and prepare millions of young Nigerians for the future.
